Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that Andaman and Nicobar is going to be developed as a “maritime and startup hub”. He also highlighted the government’s development initiatives for it.
The Prime Minister is there for the inauguration of a submarine optical fibre cable facility for Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The cable will be between Chennai and the islands to boost the Internet connectivity in the region.
The connection will allow the islands to become digitally independent and face no problem in connecting to the outside world.
At an interaction with BJP workers from the region, he asserted that the islands are strategically located and can become a key centre for global sea trade. Additionally, he said that the central government is working to make it a blue economy hub and also an important place for maritime startups.
According to him, the region will play an important role in his “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision. He also highlighted Andaman archipelago’s significance in India’s freedom movement.
He said 12 islands of Andaman and Nicobar have been selected for high-impact projects, with an emphasis on boosting trade of sea-based, organic and coconut-based products of the region.
The region is expected to get over 300 km of national highway in record time. Also, the government is working to improve the air connectivity between these islands and the rest of the country.
