Earlier, Health Ministry had declared that India was in talks with Russia regarding ‘Sputnik V’ corona vaccine.

“As far as Sputnik-5 vaccine is concerned, India and Russia are in communication. Some initial information has been shared.”

According to reports, the talks are regarding collaboration for manufacturing Russia’s COVID-19 vaccine ‘Sputnik V’. They are also looking to conduct Phase 3 trial of the vaccine in India.

Russia had recently approved “world’s first Covid-19 vaccine” and is now in the Phase 3 trial of the vaccine. The Phase 3 involves testing more than 40,000 people at more than 45 medical centres around Russia, the TASS news agency reported earlier.

Russia had earlier confirmed that they were looking to partner India for producing the vaccine with India. He had also said that they were looking for international cooperation and could approach India for clinical trials.

“We are going to do clinical trials not just in Russia but also in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, probably in Brazil and India. We are planning to produce the vaccine in more than five countries and there is a very high demand from Asia, Latin America, Italy and other parts of the world regarding the delivery of the vaccine.”

Earlier, Pune’s Serum Institute of India (SII) was given the green light for conducting the Phase 2 and 3 human clinical trials of the Covid-19 vaccine in India. Oxford University in collaboration with AstraZeneca is manufacturing the vaccine.
