The coronavirus pandemic has seen a major shift in the working model of most industries. Work from home (WFH) has become the new norm and is most likely here to stay. Major corporations are looking at a hybrid model of working with WFH being a major part of that. Another industry that has bee hit hard due to the COVID-19 pandemic is the tourism sector. There has been a decline in tourism and has seen major tourist destinations lose visitors due to this pandemic.
After sometime the monotony of WFH will dawn upon the employees too. It won’t take much time for the people to get tired of working from home and being confined to the four walls of their home.
The government of Barbados has come up with a visa that looks to address the monotony of WFH and the declining tourists. They have introduced a great scheme called ‘Barbados Welcome Stamp’, a one-year remote working visa, giving foreigners the chance to live and work remotely from this paradise and see out the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We recognize more people are working remotely, sometimes in very stressful conditions, with little option for vacation. Our new 12 month Barbados Welcome Stamp, a visa that allows you to relocate and work from one of the world’s most beloved tourism destinations,” according to Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, as quoted on the official website.
The visa fee for an individual is US $2,000 and the family bundle costs US $3,000. The family bundle will include spouse and dependents, the conditions for the same can be found on their website. While the visa-holders won’t have to pay income tax to Barbados, they will continue to pay the taxes in their home country.
To apply, you’ll need to upload your passport sized photograph and submit documents like birth certificate (self/spouse/dependents), proof of relationship and fill out a form here. But there’s a catch regarding the eligibility, you have to ensure that you’ll be earning at least US $50,000 for the next 12 months and be able take care of your spouse and dependents. According to the government, it will take less than 7 days for the approval and for you get the chance to work and relocate beachside for 12 months.
It’s a great chance for the people who are eligible to turn their jobs into a dream job by working from a beach with splendid surroundings. Barbados is known for it’s scenic beauty and beautiful beaches. A good surrounding is known to boost creativity and morale, with Barbados providing the perfect environment to ensure you that don’t have a boring day at work.
According to Hon. Kerrie Symmonds, Minister of Tourism, the government of Barbados is also ensuring the safety of their people and the tourists by putting in place new protocols to keep the coronavirus pandemic in check. The visitors from high-risk countries (more than 10,000 new cases in the last one week) are strongly encouraged to take a COVID-19 PCR test from an accredited laboratory (ISO, CAP, UKAS or equivalent) within 72 hours prior to departure for Barbados. Those from the low-risk spots (fewer than 100 cases in the last week) have up to one week before the departure.
On arrival the travelers will be required to present the evidence of a negative test result. If they can’t, they will be tested at the airport and quarantined for 48 hours until the test result is available.
